Port Hope’s IDEAHUB is pleased to welcome The Apple Crumble Company as a tenant in the Municipality’s business incubator.
The Apple Crumble Company began from a very well received dessert at a family gathering – the joy and pleasure that ensued from the simple comfort food started owner Jill Lawrence thinking about the idea for a business.
Though the company’s slogan is “Taking the Empire Apple and creating an Apple Empire”, it’s not just classic apple crumble coming out of the overs. Other fruit varieties and flavours include blueberry, pear, ginger, maple, cranberry, rhubarb and gluten free varieties.
Baking has begun in the IDEAHUB’s newly renovated kitchen and sweet aromas waft through the building. Owner Jill Lawrence is happy to be providing Northumberland County with baked crumbles made from fresh, local ingredients. Currently available in 5 locations throughout Northumberland County, Jill continues to expand with the addition of new locations.
Deputy Mayor Jeff Gilmer is a member of the Business Incubator Management Advisory Board, “while this is a very different type of business for IDEAHUB, the gourmet food sector is growing quickly in Northumberland County and in partnership with the Community Futures Development Corporation, the Board is pleased to provide The Apple Crumble Company with the resources to start small and grow into the community.”
Port Hope’s IDEAHUB opened in 2010 as a full service business incubator for new and emerging entrepreneurial companies. While Federal and Municipal funding helped establish IDEAHUB, leases are negotiated between the tenant and the building owner. IDEAHUB currently is home to 11 business with additional tenancy expected in the fall. IDEAHUB has quickly become a highly sought-after model of business incubation in Ontario.
